Te Awamutu Devils vs Eastern Suburbs

On Saturday we played Eastern Suburbs in rugby. We all were early and they were late so we had some time to warm up. When we got given our jerseys, they gave me number seven (open side flanker) so I was really looking forward to play as it is my best position.

We lost the toss so they chose to kick off. We were playing really well until our backs lost the ball and they got the first try. We were all worried because in all of the other games we had played, we had scored first. By half time the score was very close but we had lost the ball quite allot. In the second half we came out very strong and scored two tries in the first 10 minutes so the score was 32-12 to us. In the last 10 minutes Mitchell and I scored a try and Mitchell kicked it which put the final score at 39-12 to us but we should have got more as they had lost games and we hadn’t. At the end  of the game, we went to Angus’ house and had dinner and watched the All Blacks win against England so we stayed until about mid night so I was really tired the next day. Overall I think that I played a really good game as I tackled someone SO hard that I made him cry

Te Awamutu Devils Vs Frankton Black

Last weekend my team (the Devils) played the top team in our rugby grade (Frankton) who won their last game 115-0. We were all early for the game and started warming up. When the other team arrived we were all in shock as they had one person who weighed 80 kilograms. I was playing number 6 (Flanker) so I was going to have to tackle the big guy. Unfortunately we lost the toss so we had to kick of the game. The ball went straight to one of their forwards so I tackled him, but it was a bit to high. They got a penalty and kicked it out. After a while, we got down to their 22 and they got a scrum. They were about to kick it but I charged it down and scored a try. We were all really stoked that we were winning but I was even happier as it was my first try of the year. Our winning streak didn’t last long as they got a try so we were both on five points. Half time came really fast so we all had a break and talked our game plan over. They kicked off and straight away we got a try. All we had to do was not let them get a try and we would win. They were in our five metre mark when they started to punch Mitchell in the head and got a try. The reff didn’t see the punches and awarded the try. Even though we drew with them, we were all happy that they didn’t beat us.

Our arrival- Christmas

Boredom filled my mind as I looked out the car window. We were all packed in like sardines, but I knew it was all worth it as it was the best time of the year; Christmas. Slowly we got closer to our destination we all longed for; the wonderful beach. As the car turned into the car park, we all jumped with joy as our long journey was finally over, we had arrived.

Doors shot open and a stampede of anxious children stumbled out of the car. You would have thought it was about to blow up. Cheers were floating through the air and children were all in the water in the blink of an eye. Salt water filed my hair as I dived into the refreshing sea which took the wind out of my lungs. We all played for about 30 minutes. It was time to unpack the cars so we all rushed down the road to the batch.

The batch was exactly how we left it last year, abandoned with no movement at all. Firstly we unpacked all of the junk foods such as fizzy drinks, ice cream and of course chocolate, but Nana had made sure she’d packed some fruit. We then selected which beds we were going to sleep in as first in first serve. I managed to get one of the top bunks (not on the floor) which was a bonus. My sister managed to find the surfboards hiding away in the rusty old bike shed covered in spider webs. Boogie boards were also hiding away in the garage which I found and headed back down to the beach with my two cousins.

We’d all had enough of the beach so we decided to go and get some fish and chips for dinner which was located on the main street. Amongst the main street was the Warehouse and my favourite dairy. We all waited outside the fish & chips shop and played a game of I spy. There were lots of palm trees down the side of the road where we were, with neatly trimmed roses scattered behind them. On the other side of the road was a big grocery shop standing out from a never ending grass field, stretching to the golden sand of the beach.

Finally we received our order from the ginger haired shop receptionist who thanked us for shopping at Herlys which was the name of the shop. We ate at the park behind the grocery shop. Slowly we staggered back to the batch ready to play till midnight. Everything was going awesome but then we heard the bad news, our uncle’s girlfriend had had an accident so they couldn’t come. We were all disappointed that they were not coming but we decided to put it behind us as nothing was going to ruin our holidays at the beach. Everything was going so fast as one day of our holidays was already gone. We decided to go to bed sharing what we had all done, slowly my eyes fell shut.

What A Game!!

Last night the Crusaders and the Waratahs played for the Super 14 cup as it was the final.  The first points were scored by Daniel Carter (Crusaders) from a penalty kick. We were all excited that the New Zealand team was winning but not for long as the Waratahs scored two try before half time. At half time the score was 12-6 to the Waratahs but the Crusaders weren’t going to break their winning victory of six out of seven Super 14 wins. The Crusaders came out very strong but so did the Waratahs. But then the crusaders got a try but it was not allowed as their was a fight with…………… going of from a yellow card. The Crusaders got two more tries and a field kick before the end of the game putting the Crusaders in front as the final score 20-12 to the crusaders. It was a very close game but the best team won by far as the Crusaders rule!!! Oh and the Waratahs are an Australian team so it makes a even better win. I think the player of the day was Daniel carter as he had allot of pressure on him to do well and he did. GO THE CRUSADERS!!!!!

Title: The Lost Colony

Author: Eoin Colfer

Publisher: Puffin Books

Genre: Adventure, Fantasy

ISBN: 014132686

Pages: 384

This book is all about a boy called Artemis Fowl and the adventures he goes through. Artemis has a bodyguard as he is a top secret agent solving problems to do with fairies that live underground. The fairy family is made up of fairies, trolls, demons, goblins and warlocks. In this book, Artemis is dealing with demons and warlocks as the portal between their world and our world is breaking down, as the time spell between them is wearing off and all of the demons are being sucked into our world. The only way Artemis can save the demon race is to find five magical creatures and make them re-bind the time spell, the only problem is all of the warlocks died when they made the old spell. In his adventure, Artemis meets new friends and old friends from the past, he also travels back in time, gets a new eye and meets a goat with a human head. Find out how Artemis saves a whole colony by doing the impossible.

Firstly I would like to say that I loved the character Artemis Fowl as he is very self dependent and is always confident in what he is doing.

When I started this book, I wasn’t quite sure if I was going to like it as it was all about fairies and imaginary creatures. But as I got into the story it made the fairies seem as if they did exist. I also found my new favorite author as Eoin Colfer has a very wide vocabulary filled with awesome description. One of my favorite parts of the book was when Artemis and his friend Holy swapped eyes in the time portal. Another favorite part in the story was when the imps all turned into demons by chanting ‘KILL THEM ALL’ and banging on their desks. The only let down with this book is that the start was very mucky as it started in one place without explaining why they were there or were they were. Overall, I believe that this book starts alright and gets better as you read it. I recommend this book to people that love a descriptive read or one that is full with demons and fairies.

Hurricanes take on the Crusaders

The super 14 semi final is finally here as the Hurricanes take on the Crusaders and the Waratahs are facing the Sharks. My favorite team is by far the Crusaders as they have  won most of  there games and they have the best players. The Hurricanes are also a very good team and they are also from New Zealand.  The captain of the Hurricanes is injured so that does not help the Hurricanes win. The Crusaders have already beaten the Hurricanes this year so they are expecting to win on Sunday. I will be watching the game on Sunday and will be betting on the Crusaders.

Oh and I am talking about Rugby if anyone is wondering what I am talking about. crusaders.jpg

Young Leaders Day

On Monday 40 students from my school (including me) went to Rotorua to attend the national Young Leaders Day for New Zealand. We were all really excited to go as there was going to be really cool special guests such as Mark Inglis who has climbed Mount Everest with no legs! We all had to get up really early at 6:00 and be at school at 6:30. In my car was me, my Mum, Angus, Mitchell and Winiata. When we all got to school we all got into our cars and left for Rotorua were it was being held. We arrived at the Rotorua Event Centre at about 8:00 and had a look around; the building was very big as it had to fit in 4000 people for about five hours. We managed to get a good seat as we were almost first into the building which was a bonus. The first speaker was Mark Inglis who talked about being responsible for your actions and never giving up. The next speaker was a very good netball player who had played for the silver ferns for two years. Her name was Lynda Vagana and she was very inspiring as her mother died about a week early-er. We all had a break and carried on with the show. The next speaker was a Maori talker who was very successful in talking to children. I can’t remember his name as he had a long name. He had some very funny stories about his childhood. The final speaker was a very famous person in New Zealand as he is a presenter for Lotto. His name is Russel Harrison. He is also a very good at singing as he showed us the end of his talk. He is also very good t imitating Elvis Presley. Overall it was a great day with lots of fun. I believe that I learnt allot about leadership but the main thing I learnt was to believe in myself.

Rugby

YAAY rugby season has finally began. I am so excited this year as all of my friends are in my team (the devils). We are in 12th grade which is 55kg and under. Last year I played flanker but this year I am playing wing so I am in the back line.  We played our first game against Hamilton Old Boys last weekend and we won 22-0. I played a really good game as it was my first time on the wing. By the end of the game the other team was getting angry and started to punch us in the rucks. One player was sent off as he high tackled me and punched my friend Mitchell. Angus scored three tries and Shawn scored the rest.

I am also involved in the development squad for Te Awamutu which is very good as I am learning lots of new skills which is making me a better played. This weekend my team is playing Frazer Tech in Te Awamutu for our second grading game. Wish me luck!!!
